Grafted Polymer with Maleic Anhydride

A grafted polymer with maleic anhydride is a material that enables the simultaneous utilization of the properties of two different polymers or a polymer and a filler. These materials act as a bridge, connecting particles of two otherwise incompatible components. Without a grafted polymer, the materials would not mix properly. The main purposes of using a grafted polymer are to enhance the physical and mechanical properties of polymers, improve their colorability, and enhance their thermal properties.

Grafted polymers with maleic anhydride are also known as compatibilizers or coupling agents. There is a conceptual difference between a compatibilizer and a coupling agent: a compatibilizer enables two incompatible polymers to blend together, while a coupling agent facilitates the bonding between a polymer and a filler (such as glass fiber).
