Tie Layer Adhesives
Tie layer adhesives are functionalized polyolefin used to improve the adhesion properties between incompatible layers, with different polarity. These materials are able to form a chemical bond with polar polymers due to their polarity. On the other hand, the presence of polyolefin chain in their structure allows the adhesive to penetrate in non-polar chains and form a physical interaction with them. As a result, tie layer adhesive helps the producers to achieve a better bonding between the layers by being located in the middle layer between different materials.
The physical and mechanical properties of final product would be improved as a result of a better adhesion between the layers; this improved adhesion is achieved by means of tie layer adhesives.
These adhesives are used in multilayer pipes, multilayer packaging films and paper lamination.
