Tie Layer Adhesive for Corrugated Pipes

What you will read:

At Aria Polymer, we have recently developed a new product: Tie Layer Adhesive for Reinforced Spiral Corrugated Pipes. In this article, we explore its features, benefits, and applications.

If you’re unfamiliar with tie layer adhesive, we recommend starting with our article: Tie Layer Adhesive in Simple Words.

What Is Corrugated Pipe?

Corrugated pipes are designed for liquid transmission. As shown in the image below, their outer surface is corrugated. Since these polyethylene (PE) pipes are installed underground, the corrugated structure enhances their pressure resistance.

In contrast to the outer surface, the inner layer of corrugated pipes is completely smooth and free of bumps. This allows liquids to flow with reduced friction.

As shown in the image below, these pipes have enormous dimensions (both in width and height) and play a vital role in transmitting essential liquids such as oil and water. Therefore, it is crucial for them to have high pressure resistance, as a breakdown could result in significant costs (both in time and money) for repairs or replacements.

One factor that significantly impacts the pressure resistance of corrugated pipes is the tie layer adhesive used in their manufacturing. The following image illustrates the structure of a corrugated pipe, where the tie layer adhesive is visibly applied to bond the internal layers of the pipe.

What Is Reinforced Spiral Corrugated Pipe?

Reinforced spiral corrugated pipes are a more advanced and durable version of traditional corrugated pipes. In other words, they represent the next generation of these pipes. Designed with a reinforcing metal layer, these five-layer pipes are specifically used for water and sewer transmission.

Adhesive for Reinforced Spiral Corrugated Pipes

As mentioned earlier, tie layer adhesive plays a crucial role in the durability and lifespan of corrugated pipes by bonding the metal and polymer layers together. An effective adhesive should remain intact under all conditions, including extreme high or low temperatures.

Aria Polymer has recently (As of January 2025, when this article is being written) developed a new tie layer adhesive for reinforced spiral corrugated pipes after months of research, development, and testing:

In this article, we do not intend to delve into technical details but rather describe the process of launching our new product. The first three steps involved market research, developing the initial formula, and producing a prototype. The prototype was then tested, and based on the feedback from these tests, the final adhesive was manufactured. This final product was provided to a corrugated pipe manufacturer, and after their final approval, mass production began.
